What’s this akomismo.org that we saw last Sunday? And help me fulfill my akomismo pledge. Read on..”
Last Sunday we saw how Manny Pacquiao crushed Ricky Hatton but before that fight was shown, everyone who had the patience to watch the ten thousand commercials witnessed a very special commercial by what I call a Filipino movement, www.akomismo.org.
The commercial was just stunning and stops you from what you are doing (what commercials are really supposed to do) since the endorsers were Angel Locsin, Ely Buendia, Chris Tiu, Luis Manzano, Maxene Magalona and many more.
What’s their goal or message?
To lift the Filipino spirits since for them the number one problem that we face right now is us losing faith (“ang kawalan ng pagasa”). What they’re telling us is that in our own little way we can make a difference just as long as I start it and finish it, hence, the campaign “Ako Mismo.”
It’s a shout out to every Filipino worldwide that we should be tired of complaining, of relying on others, of surrendering in what we believe in. We should stand and lead in our own little ways and hopefully this could make a positive chain reaction in our society.
There’s this thing that bothers me with this site though…
When you enter the site you are asked for lots of personal information that I was hesitant to give especially since I read this article from abs-cbnnews.com questioning its “secrecy” and possible privacy and security concerns. No one right now knows who’s behind this campaign but the site looks nice and is well funded based on the endorsers. Right now speculation is that Manny V. Pangilinan is behind this and this site may be used for campaigning purposes.
Thanks to yugatech for sharing this info, which makes it clear that it’s really linked to MVP:

Anyway, going back. Am I just paranoid about getting too much information or do I really agree with him?
I have to say both but for the sake of knowing what’s behind the front page, I went and signed up. I really didn’t care about giving my cellphone number away since I’ve given that in other sites too. And I wanted to know where I could get the Ako Mismo dog tags, which I think were pretty cool.
You see, Ako Mismo doesn’t share any “About Us” page or anything much about them unless you sign up. You really have to join to know what’s happening inside and by doing this you will have to make a pledge (Ako Mismo…)
So what was my “Ako Mismo” pledge?
Ako Mismo gagawa ng inspirational site. Haha I couldn’t think of anything when I signed up but while writing that pledge I thought of an actual site and I’ll call it AkoMissmo.com. You know how cheesy we Filipinos can get.
Guy: Long time no see ah! Ano balita?
I really don’t know that I’m doing buying this site but at least I’m starting to do my pledge right?
I don’t think I’m violating any trademark here as long as I don’t make anything similar to akomismo.org right?
So my question is…who wants to join me in making this site? I’ve already bought the domain name. Let’s go! I want to hear an “Ako Mismo ang gagawa ng site na yan with Ongai”
