Where can I buy good sandals for trekking trip to Pinatubo?

This was the question I was asking my friends over on facebook before the weekend since I was planning to go to Mt. Pinatubo and I didn’t want to wear rubber shoes. Others suggested Crocs will do for the trip but I was a little hesitant since I knew it wasn’t really made for trekking. Good thing my friend suggested Tribu sandals made here in the Philippines.

I’ve already seen the brand but since I wasn’t really a market before I never really gave it any attention…until last Friday where I was looking for that perfect trekking sandals for the trip.

So on I went to Toby’s Shangri-la to check the sandals out and I was surprised that the price was just P695. I was almost tempted to buy it but at the back of my mind the thought of buying Crocs was bothering me. So I had it “reserved” first and went to Rustan’s to see if they had Crocs there.

They had the sandals but when I asked the sales lady if it was any good for trekking, she said no. I really appreciated the honesty since most will try to find a way to make the answer close to a yes. So for their honesty, I would recommend buying a Crocs from Rustan’s. So I went back to Toby’s to buy my Tribu trekking sandals for my trip to Mt. Pinatubo.

Now I was faced with a simple and good problem: Which one should I get, the plain and safe black one or the more colorful and stylish orange and gray? In spite orange being my favorite color (obviously), I still was leaning to the thicker soled black Tribu. I mean they had the same design, just a different color. They both had great “technology” when it came to sandals since in order to tighten the strap on your feet, all you had to do was pull certain areas. It was a little complicated at first but I got the hang of it after they showed me how. And another thing that I love about the design is that there was a separate strap for your big toe to give your walking more control. And don’t forget the cool sole of the sandals.

It took me around 10 minutes to feel it out and decide and in the end the orange and gray Tribu one.

Here it is:

My Tribu sandals

So were the Tribu trekking sandals comfortable? Is buying Tribu worth the price? Is it really solid for Mt. Pinatubo? Find out in my blog entry on my trip to Pinatubo.
